Rojales
Rojales
is a agriculture village as a result of which the river Segura flows. To
optimise production, farmers have themselves specialized in citrus
fruits, which represent 70% of the total agriculture ground taken. The
immediacy of the coast has ensured that more and more people are working
in the service sector. This phenomenon further resulted in a lot of new
constructions of new urbanisations in and around Rojales
attracting more and more foreign capital. This new wealth has also lead
to the construction of a new municipal sport hall and a theatre.
The small town of Rojals can be found in the South
Costa Blanca area of Spain only about 12 k from the well known town of
torrevieja and 5k from the beautiful golden beaches of Guardamar. In
fact the nearest place to Rojales is Quesada an area that has been built
up over the last 30 years by the Quesada family though most residence of
Quesada think of them selves as living in Quesada they do come under the
town hall of the smaller Rojales, this in turn make Rojales a very large
and interesting place to visit not only offering the true Spanish
experience but all that is required for that perfect get away. So if you
decide to visit for a few weeks or for the rest of your life, Rojales is
truly a fantastic place offering it all.
Only a 35 minute drive from Alacante airport and 45 from Marcia, Rojales
is well located. Travel along the A7 motorway or use the N332 until you
reach Torrivijaca and then turn inland. You will come to the arches of
Quesada first but remember this comes under Rojales. Turning under the
arches you will come to one of the commercial areas full of shops banks
bars restaurants and of course estate agents.
First on the left just before the arches is an Irish style bar next to
the a bank and the lounge bar with its gentleman’s bar upstairs, an easy
relaxeing atmosphere, then one of the many Chinese restraints that seem
to out number all others. You can go left here, and within the next 100
meters you will find an Indian restraint a few discount shops officering
Bedding, Electrical goods, furniture and clothes. Also a new Gym that
will be open in the spring of 2007 and a little crazy golf course and
bar.
Driving under the arches the first on the left is your petrol station if
you park up here you will find a little shopping area behind it, often
missed this area has a good selection of shops. 2 travel agents 4 estate
agents a wine shop straight from the barrel. An English food shop, car
hire, computer shop, a few cafes and a Pizza Hut. Then you have a card
nick nack shop, and an English butcher. A lot just tucked away on the
back streets. On the opposite side to the garage is a very well stocked
hard wear store, on up the main round a bank then a cloths store and yet
another bank all within the next 20 meters.
You then will find a property rental company a few small cafes and a
gift shop followed by Q.S.D Estate agents next to a very busy chemist. A
slip road that is one way and you can not turn left into it is next.
Then the heart of the high street for bars and restraints, the hot spot
for holiday makers and the younger generation, and to be honest a nice
place to be in the evening. We seem to have everything form steak houses
to Orental food, Spanish, Chinese and Indian all within the next 30
meters. So you will have a lot to try. Last in this little row is the
Don Carlos looks Irish but its Spanish, timber floors and a nice
atmosphere. Next is a place that offers you the chance to site at a
table and poor your own beer, sounds like a good idea, I don’t know how
it works so please let me know. On the right had side of the road is a
right turn that takes you to a few news agents selling all that is
English and for some the most important place, a cigarette shop I think
its about £20 for 200 and I am told that’s good. Back to the main road
and on upwards, a few more banks and then the sports bar, only named
because it has fruit machines in it. You are then at a fork in the road
and in a way the end of the high street. You can go up to the right up
to the left or left. Taking the left you will see that if you are
driving you can only go 10 meters before you have to go left again. So
let’s walk as it’s easier. In this little area again you have a small
shopping centre, in no particular order. 4 estate agents an insurance
company, a sports shop, 5 bars/cafes a video hire shop that doubles as a
paste shop. Then there are 3 hair dressers and a few clothes shops all
tucked away around the back. All in all a lot to see.
If you go to the right at the fork in the road within 50 meters theirs 3
clothes shops a dentist and 2 small bars.
If you go to the left in the fork it’s the end of the high street and on
to other parts of Quesada/Rojales.
J.C ‘s country club this was once not the place to go but its under new
ownership, they are working hard and its working, outside classes can be
taken, what seems like almost every day. From line dancing to dancing,
exercise lessions it’s all going on. Car boot sales once a week with out
the need for the car. Inside 4 full size snooker tables and a good bar.
Next to J.C’s though not the same business is a bowling green (that’s
out door bowling wearing white clothes for those of us that do not know)
Then it’s down to the golf course, 18 holes of total frustration for
these that play and a good way to entertain yourself if you don’t
watching those that say they do, but can’t seem to hit the ball. For
those that need help there is a driving range 1Euro buys 36 balls a lot
cheaper than 55 Euros for a round. A putting green and a club house is
added to the package and a new golf shop. Then there is the bars for all
and we have a lot.
Ciao Mamma Mia
The Olde 9th (a bit of a give away that it’s something to do with golf.
In fact it’s great for all, Jim and his family run the place and I think
he is not a golfer. T.V for the football, sing a longs and extra
entertainment added in + the food, lots of it and GOOD.
Flannigan’s Irish for those who don’t speak the language but the Irish
like us all so go along. The Guinness is good the staff are nice and so
is the atmosphere. If it’s simple food you need then this place is best
chips and something is the order of the day, but what chips they are.
Mr. Sinks curry house is above the Irish bar, an Indian from Glasgow, if
you are into the hot stuff on a hot day then try the tapes. It’s a great
idea lots of little bits of Indian food being eaten over looking the
golf course. Heaven.
To add to this we have also got a Woke (Chinese) but this ones with a
difference for about 5 of your English Pounds you can eat as much as you
want. All the food is uncooked and then prepared to your liking with the
source of your choice by the chefs
In only a few minuets. Can get a bit noisy so I tend to go early and of
course I have longer to eat. Some one I know often spends 4 to 5 hours,
pigging out. But that’s the name of the game.
Also at the golf side of Rojales is a new commercial centre as going to
press 2007 we do not have many shops open about 10 are available but
watch this space.
For those of you (myself included) who miss English food, we have an
English food store called Thomas Green if they don’t have it they will
get it, but most of the time they will have it. A few more small bars
are also located in this area all very nice and it’s a case of find the
one you like the best and make it your local. The beer is good and
cheaper than you will pay back in the U.K but that’s all apart of living
the dream that so many of us are here for.
A Super Value supermarket just about finishes off this area, with all
that you could need from fresh to frozen, its Spanish owned but like all
other Spanish people they go out of their way to look after you even to
giving a free beer bar on a Saturday morning. That’s right let the wife
do the shopping and have a beer with the lads in the super market, what
a life.
If you had taken the right hand fork in the high street of Rojales/Quesada
you would have ended up in the Dona Pepa area of town and all the new
buildings that are going up faster than I can type this. But if you go
to the part that is already finished you will find a good place to eat,
drink and shop. We have a few pizza places 2 English shops a well
stocked supper market, computer shop a Post room full of internet
computers. A Launderette and a very good restraint called Loral and
Hardy. Go further down the road and you will come to the La Laguna hotel
I think at least 4 star but priced well with all the extras, it is
surrounded by other restraints including a little Italian to die for.
Add to this Down town Quesada (restraint) the Budapest (restraint) and a
Chinese and Indian and you had better get walking on the beach.
Come on, live the dream.
