Almeria
The Real Spain
The
city of Almeria was founded at the base of a nearby mountain
range, in the middle if Almeria Bay. Almeria's culture and
history date back many thousands of years. Almeria, south of
Granada, has a rugged coastline with unspoilt beaches and
sun-baked desert scenery and offers the quietest nightlife
of any part of Mediterranean Spain.

Although on first look the Costa Almeria is a
baron desert, because of its good irrigation system, it is
an significant expansion area, and renowned for its high
quality oranges and grapes which is it main exportation.
The sandy beaches stretch far and wide, with quiet coves,
and clear waters. There are many activities available in
this province from water sports, to golfing, gliding, horse
riding, and hiking.

Almeria city itself has an abundance of
history with many places to visit. The Cathedral is a must
see built in 995, so is the Alcazaba, a stroll through the
park, and the local market (in the Plaza Vieja) to soak up
the Spanish atmosphere. The locals are very welcoming, and
approximately half are of African origin. Because of this
there is a ferry service to Africa from the main port of
Almeria City. There is also a fishing port and a sports
marina which is hosting the Mediterranean games in 2005.
Through the center of the city is La Rambla a long avenue
with many childrens playgrounds, and alcoves to sit and
rest. |
